Cody Lee Meece

Cody Lee Meece from Eubank, Kentucky is a thoughtful song-writer with a rich vocal as well as an amazing guitarist and overall performer. We are happy to highlight him as the MSS Kentucky Artist of the Month in July 2024.

We asked CLM about his earliest influences, Cody had this to say; "My first gig experience is pretty fuzzy. That was a million years ago I think. My grandpa got me into music and he was a huge lover of music." We agree. From Stevie Ray Vaughn to Waylon Jennings, you can hear these influences in his songs which are often an emotional experience with a tucked undertone of humor. Cody commented, "I’m most proud of the fact that I’m still writing and still trying to get these songs out there and away from my own head. I haven’t given up on these songs; and so far they haven’t given up on me."

When asked to share something he has struggled with to help other up-and-coming artists, Cody said, "I’ve struggled with mental illness and substance abuse of various forms through my life but have been on a beautiful path of healing (this year) and simply hope to keep pushing the boundaries of just how good I can be someday if I live long enough." This is a topic that is not often talked about enough. Songwriting, gigging, social media, etc. can take it's toll on an artist. If you have someone to talk to, we encourage you to reach out - many times they are also struggling one way or the other and it can mean the difference between healing or suffering. If there is one thing we have learned from getting to know Cody, we are all better off to chose love and supporting one another as part of a larger community is critical.

Eubank, KY is part of the Somerset micropolitan statistical area. Somerset, Kentucky was first settled in 1798 by Thomas Hansford and received its name from Somerset County, New Jersey, where some of the early settlers had formerly lived. Somerset became the Pulaski County seat in 1801, and was incorporated as a city in 1887. Somerset is also near Cumberland Falls and the Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area. Highly recommend to see Cody Lee Meece (sometimes with his brothers-in-arms, sometimes without "The Poor Excuses") at a venue or festival near you (pro tip: Meece will be with his band at the Master Musicians Festival this year, held the weekend of July 19-20 in Somerset, KY). Also, find Cody Lee Meece streaming his new album on all platforms as well as at www.codyleemeece.com, on YouTube, FaceBook & Instagram.
